- Abstract: Solvents have physicochemical properties that interfere in the processes of crystallization and aggregation. Parameters such as acidity, basicity, polarizability, and electron density are highlighted by solvatochromic scales that may be useful to understand the gelation carried out in different solvents as well as the competition between crystallization and gelation. Herein, an overview is made on solvatochromic scales and considerations on the role of solvents in obtaining gels.
