- Abstract: In the last few decades, monumental concerns have grown in society for the sustainable development of biofuels, biomaterials, and biochemicals eventually addressing critical issues like climate change, carbon emissions, inclusive economic growth, among others. Woody biomass is an excellent feedstock in the world due to its high energy density, high carbohydrates content, and abundance availability on the Earth. For the efficient conversion of woody biomass into biofuels and low carbon chemicals, precise and reliable techno-economic analysis is necessary considering the product/by-product yields, cost of the feedstock, processing cost, and viability of technology to be executed on a large scale. To gauge the overall techno-economic viability of lignocellulose biorefinery, critical elements such as capital investment, value-chain analysis, and product diversification ranges are essential. However, most of the technologies for woody biomass valorization are still in the conceptual phase. In this chapter, we have tried to present aa critical assessment of technology-driven hot-spots for the accurate techno-economic analysis of woody biomass conversion to second-generation ethanol production.
