- Abstract: Desde os anos 1980 pesquisadores têm sido surpreendidos com estimativas da elasticidade de substituição intertemporal próximas de zero. Duas possíveis causas são taxas de retorno que não são representativas do portfólio do consumidor e estimativas inconsistentes devido ao problema de instrumentos fracos. Nós examinamos se series de retorno do capital agregado dos Estados Unidos e vários conjuntos de instrumentos são capazes de gerar estimativas maiores para esta elasticidade. Nossos resultados indicam que a série de retorno agregado é capaz de produzir estimativas substanciais da elasticidade de substituição intertemporal com vários conjuntos de instrumentos diferentes. Um conjunto de instrumento que não é usual teve boa performance e seu uso em modelos de consumo parece promissor
