- Abstract: Difference of chronotype distribution related to social habits and geographical location has been observed in Brazil. The present project is characterized by the study of chronotype distribution in Latin America. A collaboration with researchers from Argentina, Chile, Cuba and Uruguay (PROSUL/CNPQ) will complement the geographic area of the study. We will set up a data base which will serve for the identification of a distribution pattern of the chronotypes regarding the geographical position and in the near future, we will study clock genes polymorphisms frequencies in populations of different latitudes. The chronotype questionnaire (the Horne-Ostberg questionnaire) is composed of nineteen questions of multiple choices that simulate different situations to the ideal schedules in which the individual would like do the activities daily proposals. Each answer for a question has an assigned value and their sum gives a score that classifies individuals according to its chronotype. The electronic version used in the present study was developed by the Grupo Multidisciplinar de Desenvolvimento e Ritmos Biológicos (GMDRB), and can be acessed at: http:// www.crono.icb.usp.br/cronotipo (in Spanish and Portuguese versions). In the electronic version, the final score is immediate and the individual receives the reply from its chronotype at the moment where he/she concludes the answers. Before fill the online questionnaire, the volunteerhas to fill a form containing questions about the home geographic localization, personal data, schedules of work/studies, preference for seasons of the year and daylight saving time. Preliminary results: We have analyzed 1943 questionnaries. The chronotype distribution were divided in three different groups according to brazilian latitudes (0o to 10o S, 15o to 24o S, 25o to 34o S). The largest frequency
